Nansemond River High School and Lakeland High School Receive the 2020-2021 Project Lead The Way Distinguished Schools Recognition

Suffolk Public Schools Named A
Distinguished District for STEM and Career Learning

Nansemond River and Lakeland High School both have
received national recognition for their commitment to empowering students. According to
PLTW, "PLTW Distinguished Program Recognition celebrates districts and schools committed to helping students own their education by increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. These districts and schools empower their students to unlock their potential by developing the in-demand, real-world knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in life beyond the classroom."

There are 204 PLTW distinguished schools throughout the United States,
and only six in Virginia. Two of those are our Engineering Program at NRHS and Biomedical Science Program LHS. In addition, Suffolk Public Schools received the Distinguished District honor for 2020-21.  We are one of only 17 divisions in the United States to receive this honor, and the only division in Virginia.

We extend a gracious thank you to the administrative teams at Nansemond River and Lakeland for their support of our programs. Under the leadership of Principal Douglas Wagoner (LHS) and Principal Shawn Green (NRHS), our programs have been fully supported and promoted. We would also like to acknowledge  our PLTW teachers: Mrs. Dawn Rountree at NRHS and Mrs. Sarah McDonald at LHS for their dedication to providing amazing, hands-on, rigorous educational experiences for their respective students. Finally, thank you to Mr. Skinner for his on-going work in supporting and developing our PLTW programs.
